The importance of pupil’s data

Playback is uniquely placed to unlock the potential of data within the education sector through our credible data application designed with and for senior leaders. Our focus over the last 3 years has been sustained educational improvement by tracking data in literacy, numeracy and wellbeing of children and young people.

Playback developed the ONE JOURNEY a Pupil Data Application which is helping Scottish schools to know their children well and better plan to improve outcomes for children. Our approach provides an ethical and innovative use of data to support our vision of a more inclusive and fairer experience for children across learning establishments no matter their starting point.

We know that the source of children’s data is collected from families by schools who then collate and report different datasets to other stakeholders including the local authorities, SEEMIS and HMI Inspectorate and the Scottish Government. They are also required to report downstream to the staff, parents, agencies and children.

As all stakeholders require different datasets to fulfil their own key objectives this puts a heavy burden on school leaders in providing each dataset.

One Journey offers a one stop shop via a credible data application to support schools to know their children. It brings together valid, reliable and objective educational measurements (ACEL Levels & Milestones Primary and Subject Grades Secondary) about pupils as well as data around social circumstances, wider achievements and wellbeing.

One Journey provides a system that brings the data closer to the class teacher enhancing their professional judgement and helping them to know their children even better.

One Journey is available for:

• Nursery Establishments aged 2 – 5 years
• Primary Schools aged 5 – 12 years
• Secondary Schools – Senior Phase S4 – S6 aged 14 – 18 years
